What kind of prehistoric animals are these?
Fossils are like a book, containing rich information about our world's history. Fossils are life preserved in rocks, like the trilobites on the right. Most fossils occur in sedimentary rock. In fossils, you can see the entire skeletal system of a prehistoric animal, but you can see the whole body, skin and all, in amber. Amber is tree sap that hardened. You must be thinking, how would an animal get into a solid material? Well, picture a prehistoric fly, buzzing around and minding its own business when... GLOP! A big blob of tree sap pins it down on the ground. Stuck there, the sap builds up on the bug, suffocating it. Eventually, the sap will dry and harden, and the bug will be preserved forever.
